The Connaught Curriculum

At Connaught Junior School we provide a broad, creative and balanced curriculum, which inspires children to develop a lifelong love of learning and prepares them for life in modern Britain.

Our Curriculum both inside and outside the classroom actively promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

We aim to develop enquiring and lively minds as well as the knowledge and skills to enable children to thrive in an ever changing world. We have high expectations of all children and challenge individuals such that they can go on to achieve their full potential.

English and mathematics and are core skills which children need to develop in order to progress further in other subject areas. These are taught in discrete lessons with cross-curricular links where appropriate to enable children to apply lifelong skills in a variety of scenarios.

"Pupils benefit from a wide range of experiences that enhance and enrich their time in school.  These activities support a strong core curriculum, which has an appropriate focus on English and mathematics." Ofsted January 2017

"Pupils make strong progress from their starting points once they enter Connaught Junior School.  This is due to highly effective teaching.  Teachers and teaching assistants plan together cooperatively so that time is used efficiently in lessons."  Oftsed January 2017

"Pupils participate in their lessons enthusiastically.  Teachers are equally enthusiastic.  Teaching focuses, especially in mathematics, on closing any gaps in pupils' knowledge, skills and understanding.  Teachers encourage pupils to work  independently to allow staff extra time to work with those at risk of falling behind."
